SPOILER ALERT! (If you haven’t read all 3 books, do not read on ahead!!)
Let me start off by staying that I really do like Jacob. I think that he is a great friend for Bella; I can tell that he really does love her, and he has saved her life more than once. I can also admit that Bella probably is attracted to him. He really does have a lot going for him. However…
I. Love. Edward.
I think that he is the better match for Bella and I’ll tell you why. First and most importantly, who can avoid the fact that Edward has waited 106 years for her?! How romantic is that? He really loves her more than any girl that he has ever met in 106 years! And we all know he could probably choose any girl he ever wanted because he perfect, but he chooses Bella who is perfect in every way to him. Which is funny, because Bella describes herself as plain and klutzy, but Edward sees her as much, much more. Her blood “sings” for him (Twilight ch. 13). He loves her so much that he would rather die than live in a world with out her. Yes, you can argue at this point, that he did leave her and her life was a mess for months, but he really only left her because he didn’t want to be the reason that she were ever hurt. And he’s back now so it doesn’t matter anymore anyway, right? He even wants to marry her and cares enough about her soul that he won’t even do anything with her until they are married (we need more young men like Edward in this day and age, if you ask me!). One of his best qualities that we learn about over and over is that he is so forgiving. He even forgave Bella for making out with Jacob and was willing to just wait around until he could have her if she chose Jacob.
Jacob teaches us about ‘imprinting’ and tells us that he has not imprinted yet. This is another reason that I know that Edward is better for Bella than Jacob. What if she did choose him? Will she end up like Leah and be left behind as soon as he did imprint on someone? I don’t think that Bella could take that after all she went through when Edward left. I really think that Edward and Bella are imprinted on each other and that is why she loves him so much more than Jacob.
So why do I think that Jacob is wrong for Bella? Besides that I think that he will probably imprint someone else down the road, he obviously doesn’t love Bella as much as Edward does. I do give him credit for sticking in there and fighting for her, but let’s compare him to how Edward reacts to Bella’s feelings for Jacob. Edward will wait because she is the one…Jacob will kiss her and call her ‘honey’ and show no respect for her love for Edward. I just think that he ruined things for himself in Eclipse and that he will need to find a way to just be Bella’s friend if he wants any relationship with her at all.
I really could go on and on as to why Edward is the winner in my book, but I think the blog would be way too long. But I would be interested in hearing why you think that Edward is or is not the best choice for Bella.

*********************************************
Okay, I'm going to play the devil's advocate, but I will start out like Jen by saying that I do love Edward. I love Edward and Bella together, and I know that they HAVE to be together. They can't survive any other way. I think Edward is very entertaining, such a gentleman and a great boyfriend/fiance. But...I LOVE JACOB! Let me tell you why!
First of all, it really takes a lot for me to feel the love connection between two people. And for some reason, I haven't really been convinced of Edward and Bella. Yes, I do realize that I'm crazy and the only one who feels this way. :) I think that I feel like Bella...what does Edward really love about her? That he can't hear her thoughts? That her blood smells so divine? On Stephanie Meyer's website, she talks about how she has rewritten Twilight from Edward's point of view. Hearing Edward's thoughts may change my mind about the two of them.
On the other hand, I love Jacob and Bella's friendship. I can relate more to their relationship. It seems more realistic and solid. They have fun together, and I love that he is her "sun." I think he brings out a lot of good qualities in her...confidence, cheeriness, etc. Charlie even likes Bella better when she's with Jacob. I feel like we're seeing the REAL Bella when she's with Jacob. They fit better together because they are both real, flawed people. And he loves her so much that he would even take her damaged heart, which mostly belonged to someone else. I know that had Edward not come back, Jacob could have made Bella very happy.
In the last book, I didn't like the new Jacob, but that made the old Jacob even better for me! I couldn't wait for the moments that he and Bella were together again as friends. And I thought their kissing scene near the end was AWESOME!!!!! I was so happy that Bella finally saw how much she loved Jacob, and I loved the future that could have been theirs. Jennifer told me that she was thinking the whole time, "Bella, you idiot!" I was cheering Bella on. :)
The end of the book was heart-wrenching for me! When I think about Sam saying, "Come back when you can," I still feel like sobbing! I can completely feel Jacob's pain and I am so sad for him. I'm still holding out hope for Jacob and Bella. The only problem with that, is what if she chooses Jacob, and then he imprints with someone else? So, in the end, I know that Bella must stay with Edward. That is where she is the happiest. BUT, JACOB IS STILL NUMBER ONE in my book!
So, tell us what you think! What are your hopes for the next book? Will Bella ever become a vampire? Who do you choose for Bella?

P.S. I think our poll is working again! Check the bottom of the page!
P.P.S. Or not. Sorry, it's kind of iffy!

Natalie, I love your view point and I really can see some of the things that you are saying. I am just a hopeless romantic and I love putting myself in Bella's place when Edward is around! :0) Don't worry, Sean knows about my love for Edward and said he doesn't feel threatened at all!
Ha, ha, that's funny! I think you're the 3rd person who has confessed their love for Edward to their husband. Janae, are you out there??? :) I can honestly say I have not. :)
You made excellent points as well. I felt like I lost the "argument" after reading your side. Although, I knew I was on the losing side from the beginning.
This is fun!
I am so torn between Edward and Jacob, I have been from the very beginning and was through the very last part of the book. I will admit that I bawled when I read the last part about Jacob running off as a werewolf and thinking perhaps he will never return. I think Jacob's love is more genuine towards Bella than Edward because he does all he can for her knowing she will never be with him. I know he longs in his heart for her to choose him but he knows it won't happen. I bawled when I finished book three because...I too Natalie, LOVE JACOB! I also think that Bella was being a little skanky by playing Jacob, but haven't we all been unsure of our feelings toward someone and perhaps lead them on until we realize that they weren't the right one for us?
Ok Natalie,
I might be able to forgive Bella for leading Jacob on. But! even if she didnt know how she felt about Jake, she always knew that she wasnt able to be without Edward. That is enough reason for her to NOT KISS HIM!
Yes Natalie I am here! Here is my interesting idea of a twist (we have to keep things interesting). Once Bella makes the change to Vampire she will cross paths with Jacob who will then imprint on the new vampire Bella causing another big love triangle and some smell complications for their next big kissing scene.
I love both of them dangit. I guess I have to go tell Rick I not only love a Vampire, now I love a Werewolf too.
Ooooo, that sounds good, Janae!!! :) And that will definitely make for an interesting kissing scene...hopefully nobody will die!!!!!!!
I was telling Clint my side of the story about why I liked Jacob more than Edward (even though everyone else likes Edward), and he took my side. :) He said I'm just more realistic, not wanting Bella to be with a vampire. Unfortunately, I then had to tell him that Jacob is actually a werewolf.... But he still stuck with me. Good husband!! :)
Last night while I was reading New Moon to Sean we started talking about how great of a friend Jacob is for Bella and I asked him who she should pick. He said, "Is that even a question? Edward".
We thought it was interesting that the whole time she is enjoying her time with Jacob, she is finding ways to hear Edward. It's kind of sad for Jacob!
Janae, I like your twist, that would be interesting! There has to be a twist for book 4 doesn't there? Otherwise we all already know what is going to happen! BUT...I've already decided that if the twist is that she isn't with Edward, then I will quit reading (well, at least I will try...if thats possible!)
I am so in love with Edward and Jacob. I love these books. It only took me 4 days to read all 3! Natalie, if you ever wait so long to tell me about such a fantastic series again I will scream. I am so in love, I am re-reading the books again. This may start causing problems in my own love life, there is only so much room:)
I finished reading Eclipse yesterday. Here are my thoughts about Edward vs. Jacob and then my two cents that I just need to voice since I just finished reading all three books.
Throughout all three books I enjoyed the love story between Edward and Bella and the whole "vampire thing". There were times I wondered if it was a teenage obsession for Bella and I wondered why a 90 yo+ vampire would would be attracted to a teenager with the exception of her sweet blood. It seemed like the restraints of kissing would put a stress on them eventually. "I can't breathe on my boyfriend for fear that he might eat me".
I enjoyed Edward's quirky sense of humor and his patience. I loved how he stopped his car and provided and opportunity for Bella to get asked out to the dance.
I loved Bella's courage to co-exist with "monsters", especially when she was confronted so closely in Phoenix. She was willing to die for a loved one.
It was intriguing to read about vampires that resist eating humans and trying to live among them. I liked the Cullen family.
I didn't entirely "buy" into Jacob until the end of Eclipse. At first, I thought that Bella should not be with either a werewolf or a vampire. She should be with someone human, but not Mike.
Later, I could see how she and Jacob would be happy together. She seems to attract creatures and seems so fragile as a human compared to them. Jacob is a nice compromise. They love each other, they both have beating hearts and their families are compatible. I think that even though she thinks she cannot live without Edward, she did once! She would be able to do it again, especially now that she knows that she loves Jacob. (Too bad woman can't have more than one man, as the polygamists think they should have multitudes of women.) I appreciated the lesson she learned of existing with a pain in her heart. That is just life! Could she reverse the pain of the loss of Edward by choosing Jacob?
I also liked that Jacob can protect Bella from herself. Having said that, she has come a long way from noticing how Edward'e eyes change colors in "Twilight" to wanting to participate in the fight with Victoria at the end of "Eclipse".
I don't like the idea that Jacob might imprint with somebody else. Nevertheless, all things considered I voted for Jacob in the poll.
Finally, I liked the Fire and Ice chapter in which Edward explains the four options to Jacob. The one that I liked was Edward and Bella being together while she stays human.
I didn't like the idea of Bella enduring the painful transformation into a vampire, and then being vulnerable to preying on humans until she gained control of her desire for their blood. The thought of turning into marble and being cold didn't appeal to me either. And, then is she too young to understand the things she would miss in human life such as having children?
But, if Bella doesn't transform into a vampire, she attracts too much chaos as a human.
I just don't see how Bella can remain with Edward without becoming a vampire; it causes the Cullen family too many problems having a human around, and it is just too wierd: a vampire and a human. All vampire movies end with the vampire transforming the woman that he loves.
And, then there is the trouble with the Volturi. Will she be able to hide from them her whole life if she decides to remain human? They will want her dead if she changes her mind.
I forsee it being problematic with Bella remaining human in the next book, yet I am sensing that the author is going to keep her human for a while longer and create another vampire predator conflict. Oh and of course, the continuation of Jacob and Edward in Bella's life.
All in All: A fun reading experience. I am sad that we have to wait for the fourth book.

Excellent comment, Diane! I'm so happy to meet another "Jacob-lover!" I LOVED how happy Bella was with him. He was her "sun." I haven't seen that happiness when she's with Edward.
Although, I do like Edward (and his family!), I just don't want Bella to become a vampire. I think she needs to, or will want to, have kids someday. And like you said, Diane, she's too young to really make the decision to sacrifice her family and her future.
I also think she will remain human for awhile longer. I think that she may be able to hide from the Volturi once they come to check on her, but they'll threaten the Cullens, so she won't remain hidden. But I don't know what will happen then! I think she'll become a vampire at some point...but I'm still holding out a tiny sliver of hope that she'll remain human.
Okay, Lisa, I'm going to spoil your comment!!! :) My friend Lisa made the point about how Bella HATES blood. She gets faint when she sees it. And she can smell it. What bearing do you think this will have when/if she becomes a vampire? Will she feel the same desire to drink blood as others?
